Dave Winchester Interview

Adam: Yo Dave hows it going?

Winchester: All good mate, good to hear from you again.

Adam: Being no.1 on the tour hows that feeling?

Winchester: It feels good, really good. Still a long way to go though.

Adam: What do you need to become The World Champ? (points and what rank on next few stops)

Winchester: Im not to sure, ill let hardy do all that for me, he loves it. Im just concentrating on getting another result myself. If i get another really good result then ill have a suss of the numbers.

Adam: We have been loving watching you vs GT in the previous finals, that block in Arica was a bit outta line was it a different view in the water?

Winchester: Yeah it got alot of hype, “the block” haha. Look I didn’t care at all, i know that GT is such a fierce competitor and before priority things were way worse. At the end of the day, what happens in the water stays there, I don’t have any hard feelings towards him, hes a legend. It was good stealing the last minute win.

Adam: Who are all your sponsors?

Winchester: NMD boards, Reeflex Wetsuits, Grand Flavour clothing, Sun Zapper, Bodyboarders surf co (BSC), Stealth Fins and Dragon.

Adam: NMD have supported you for a long time how long did it take to get the perfect shape for you?

Winchester: Yeah NMD are the bomb, Mez is the best shaper in the world so we have worked on some amazing things together. It took around 4 years, I chopped and changed a few times over these years but the last 4 ive been on the same shape. The parabolic is the best thing he came up with.

Adam: How would you describe your board?

Winchester: fast, super fast.

Adam: What do you think of the Parabolic core in the European water?

Winchester: i love it, i think the parabolic works amazing over there, maybe winter when the water is colder i would use an older worn in board. The parabolic cores have so much response, they are fast and have so much pop, add that to the euro waves and you have a good combo.

Adam: Favourite stop on the tour?

Winchester: Chile for the waves, brazil for the place.

Adam: Favourite wave in world?

Winchester: pipeline, its got it all

Adam: How do you keep fit when there is no waves?

Winchester: swim, run, ride a surfboard, any sport. i love being active, plus with 2 kids they are a good work out.

Adam: Would you ever come to UK for some surf?

Winchester: i would love to, my dad is a Pom so it would be pretty cool to get some waves and tell him where is surfed, he would enjoy that.

Adam: On the tour im sure everyone has a rider they hate in heats, who’s yours?

Winchester: anyone who is beating me at the time haha. I dont mind, i just want to beat them.

Adam: Biggest Inspiration?

Winchester: My wife and kids, it just blows me away how amazing they are. i wouldnt be where i am without them.

Adam: So your coming out with a movie hows that getting on?

Winchester: yeah its pretty much just going to be on the year. Ive had a few waves on and off tour, but im keen to go get some good stuff around the world. Ive just been concetrating on the contest these last few months.

Adam: Let me know when its ready, A UK Premier will go down a storm!

Adam: If you win the world title how will you celebrate?

Winchester: i would love to have it with my friends and family and enjoy it with a few drinks. but then have a wild party for everyone else.
im sure all Aussies will be going mental pure stoke.

Adam: Do you find it strange how there is no British Bodyboarders on the tour?

Winchester: sorry but not really, there hasnt been one in ages. I would love it though, we could talk about how Aston Villa are the best team haha

Adam: Do you know any british riders with good enough standard to compete on the tour?

Winchester: Yeah two british boys could do it for sure, the obvious one is Jack Johns, he surfs really good and ive heard Brooke Mason could have a good go at it.hopefully the guys can get some funding and have a go on the qualifeirs next, come on boys, do it, have a go.
